Project

Since 2015, der TANK has been the exhibition space of the Art Institute at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design. It consists in a glass cube at the center of the Campus of the Arts, which is located in Dreispitz, a neighorhood in Basel. The exhibition program is determined by the thematic focus of the Art Institute and its team, which includes former and current students and lecturers, as well as associated international artists. Four major exhibition projects — called “The Commissions” — take place annually; they are specifically designed by international artists and former students and lecturers for der TANK. These exhibitions are sometimes created in collaboration with external partners, such as the TBA21 Academy or the [N.A!] Project (2015–2019). In the “Students' Realm” series, students of the Art Institute implement their own exhibition projects.
