Weltraum

Project

Since 2016, the project Weltraum has offered cultural practitioners from various fields the opportunity to share relevant topics and works with an interested audience, in order to promote networking between people of all generations who are interested in and involved with culture. Weltraum functions in a participatory and transdisciplinary way as a platform for collaborations, focusing on the intersections and connections between art, literature, music, research, and the discussion of sociopolitical issues. Researchers of all ages and from different fields are given the opportunity to show and discuss their work without the constraints of common selection procedures and market mechanisms. The aim of the project is to provide access to innovative ways of thinking and working. When circumstances permit, the presentations will be combined with a shared meal for guests, so as to additionally cultivate exchange on an informal level. Weltraum is run by a duo, and implements about six projects per year in collaboration with other cultural professionals. Its premises are based in an old lamp factory from the 1950s, located in an industrial area in Basel, and are also used as a studio. The aim of Weltraum is to generate insights into art and culture, especially as they connect with cooking and eating.
