Ausstellungsraum Klingental

Project

Ausstellungsraum Klingental (Klingental Exhibition Space) was founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest independent project spaces in Switzerland. The association has a total of 280 members, 17 of whom are currently active on the board. Around 18 different projects take place each year. The venue, which includes various purpose-built spaces, is located in the center of Kleinbasel and views itself as a platform for artistic projects with a link to Basel. The program is periodically determined by public calls for proposals that are selected by the board members. The focus is thus on projects that the artists themselves are responsible for, offering them the opportunity to communicate individual issues and a wide range of artistic works and formats to the public. As a hybrid between an institution and a self-organized space, Ausstellungsraum Klingental occupies a special position within the scene and sees itself as a space of encounter and hospitality for the contemporary art world and an interested audience. The active and broad network is strengthened by the participation and cooperation of individual members of the board at various levels, whether locally (Kasernenareal, Summe, Regionale, Museumnacht), internationally (Atelier Mondial, project partnerships in Georgia and Chile), or across disciplines.
