le ventre

Project

Le Ventre is a project that has been in steady development since 2019, and has been operating as Association Le Ventre, with seven board members, since September 2020. The space is based in a former synagogue from the 18th century located in Alsace, about 20 minutes by bike from Basel. The architecture features a large, high-ceilinged hall with a gallery. The plan is to hold up to five exhibitions a year, in the form of two residencies and a concluding event, participation in annual exhibition events like Regionale and SUMME, and other exhibitions on-site. The orientation of the program is triregional and international. Le Ventre views itself as a place for connecting culture and the arts of the present, and strives to network with platforms, artists, organizations, and curatorial teams in the fields of contemporary music, visual arts, dance, theater, and spoken word. On a local level, the focus is on providing an inclusive cultural program for the immediate neighborhood and beyond. The project also supports regionality by facilitating participation in regional exhibition projects and festivals, such as Regionale, SUMME, and Ateliers Ouverts, and encourges international connections through its Artist in Residency program.
